New Electric service for new house, rural area. House to road is 800 ft. What is cheaper to run 200amp service? Would it be better burying a cable underground or running hydro poles along the driveway? The ground is sand and gravel.
Cheaper to go overhead and have 8 poles to reach house! If you go underground you'll need to get a larger cable to accommodate the voltage drop.
Hello, not sure what your rural code is for services there, but in Alberta it's underground services only. It's cheaper to go above ground but depends on your municipality. Hope that helps.
underground you pay a lot, overhead, you pay for poles to be set. contact your local hydro and ask for a quote to supply power from their local installation to your home. I believe the first pole is included if needed.
Over head is cheaper than under ground .
I would recommend underground service, not only because of price but more practical things. The service should stay there for 30 or more years, underground wiring is not affected by eventual storm or harsh weather conditions.
I believe hydro spans 27m from pole to pole. Each pole is 1500 to 2500 Installed. There is a limit to how long you can go underground from the transformer but rather than putting a pole near the house may as well trench it for far less than adding another pole next to the home. Go underground from 60m out to the home or so.
Gonna have to go overhead. As the transformers will need to be closer to home My suggestion is poles.
When all said and done it will be close to the same, although underground will look nicer.
