It's June and I live in the central Toronto area and am getting quotes for a 100 ft wood privacy fence; 6 foot tall with 4x4 posts. The issue is my backyard has some access issues (3ft entry at certain parts) and there are 10 foot cedars that my neighbor planted on his side such that tree roots may be an problem. Most contractors commented that they would have to hand dig all of the holes as its inaccessible by tractor auger. I keep reading that normal fence pricing will be in the $35-40 per foot range. However, I've twice been quoted $55 so far. Is that reasonable or is it just due to it being busy season and should keep looking?
Thanks.
A standard 6' fence should be around 35$ Foot minimum space for a ram rod or bobcat m52 is 3' space as per cedar tree roots they shouldn't be that big of a problem. If the roots do play a problem I would pay up to 5$ a hole more and if there utilities even more for a hand dug hole.
I'm not sure we're they get 55.00 but on a average quoting software your looking at 20.00 low end to 35.00 high end.
I don't understand why these out of province guys keep quoting on Toronto jobs without any knowledge of the market here.
$20/foot for a fence covers the materials. Are you going to install for free?
In Toronto, fencing STARTS at $35/foot. Many factors will influence this price. If you have 2 quotes already that are similar in price, then there is a good chance that your project has challenges that require a higher price.
If you keep looking around, I'm sure you will find an amateur that will give you a better price, but will probably mess the job up or walk away when they realize it can't be done for the price quoted.
