Hi,
I've just purchased aa small bungalow with white aluminum siding. It looks pretty dated/boring, so I'm wondering what my options are to improve the curb appeal, with an eye to the cost as well. Can it be painted? Or should I replace the siding? My son says not to replace with vinyl siding, as that is a lesser product.
Any suggestions (with ideas on cost) would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Vinyl has come a long way and I dont think its inferior to aluminum if its the kind I am thinking of. There is issue with Vinyl in extreme heat or cold but overall its a great product for the price. Painting it is the cheapest option but will peel if not properly prepped for paint.
Replace with Hardie cement fibre board . Choice of trims and colours and a far superior look and quality to metal siding.
Hello, Thank you for posting your question.
There is a service in the marketplace that does paint over aluminum and brick. Its run by franchises throughout Canada. My opinion,it hasn't been in the Canadian marketplace long enough to know how it will truly stand up and its a short term solution. Over time you will get similar or issues where it will fade or may flake as its a surface coat. We decided to see what the cost was as well and it wasn't too far off a full replace siding
I do suggest redoing your siding for a couple reasons. You can increase your homes energy efficiency through ensuring a proper house wrap application couple with insulation .The technology behind vinyl siding has come a long way.mYou may have heard its a lesser product, but like most products, there are different levels of quality. For siding, its thickness, You get a good .042" or thicker siding and you will not notice the difference if installed correctly.
Manufacturers have processes that guarantee your colours won't fade. Lastly, the colour selection is very rich. There is no doubt there is a colour to meet your needs
As for cost, there is a lot of variables. Its best to get a consultation so we can properly assess the needs of your project.
can be Painted but wont last and wont do that much for curb appeal.
Canexel is a step up.
Imitation stone can add a nice look as well.
Vinyl replaced older aluminum over time.

You shouldn't always listen to your son. Just give him a paint brush and give him chores, that will keep him busy.
