Paint colour idea/advice

My bedroom has a small hallway to the ensuite that has 1 walk in closet on either side. I was thinking of painting the hallway and interior of the closets a different colour than the rest of the bedroom. Would it look better if the hallway was darker or lighter than the rest of the room? I'm thinking of using gray or blueish gray or a greige.
