I want to change my kitchen cabinets from natural oak to some shade of white. Should I paint or reinstall the doors and front drawers? How much is the cost?

$120 linear foot cabinet refacing.

Hi Maryam,

$120/sq/ft is a bit extreme for cabinet refacing. This typically depends on the style of door you choose and the color. High Gloss White can cost up to $5 more per square foot. But the prices usually range from $32/sq/ft to $55/sq/ft for cabinet refacing with Thermo doors and a bit more for wood doors. Now prices may be different out in Ontario, but that's what we charge over here in BC. We like to give our customers an estimate over the phone before we do a home consultation just to give them an idea of the costs beforehand.

Hope this helps you.

Yes the cost of refactoring is $55.00- $60.00 per square foot.

The total cost is up to $5000.00.

I recommend total kitchen replacement with IKEA cabinets.

This may cost up to $7000.00 and have the problem solved forever.

Thanks,

You must consider the age and style of the kitchen door fronts before making a decision to either replace or reface the doors through professional refinishing.

Current consumer demand that will warrant the investment and guarantee good return on the investment of refinishing or painting the doors and cabinet frames is tending towards simple modern design or Shaker style doors and cabinets.

Professional painting of the cabinet doors and frames is labor intensive and the best results are achieved by removing all the doors, hardware and hinges and taking them off site to be cleaned, sanded, surface filled and paint sprayed with several coats of good quality water based cabinet paint.

The rails, styles and cabinet sides can be refinished and painted in place and do not require removal.

The cost of this process can run between $2000 to $3500 for a small to moderate sized kitchen which is considerably less than full replacement.

Hi David,

Thanks for giving this much of detail.

Kitchen cabinets are not old, just not good color.

Considering costs of labor works in removing and repainting, do you suggest me to change the doors and front drawers and paint only the parts which Stay? Would it be cheaper?

Hi Maryam,

Yes, it makes more sense to update the doors and draw fronts to a newer style and painting them to the color you desire.
