Does a painter in Canada need trade License to practice painting?
Painting in the Province is trade #404C and is a voluntary trade classification; therefore you do not require a Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) in this province.

Having said that, some places will require a CofQ from you if it is in their policy.

All provinces except for Quebec you do not need a lisencess.
If the painter is on work visa than yes but if the painter is legally working in Canada then some are better then others what I do is I give him one room to do and then make a decision.
As far as I know painting is a volountary trade in all provinces except for Quebec and so they would not require a license to operate. Keep in mind however that any sole proprietor should obtain a master business license to operate legally.
Not that I know of (in Alberta anyways).
Some jobsites do specify only Journeyman or apprentice painters though. Journeyman painters will be able to provide their certificate upon request.
