I have a sun room that has engineered paneling on the walls that I don't like. From what I have researched it may be able to be painted. Wondering if the vertical stripes would be very noticeable. I am open to other ideas also
You can definitely paint the paneling!
You will notice the vertical lines, but you could look at it as texture to your wall space.
Another option you might want to consider could be to drywall the space, that way you will always have a clean palette to work from.
Hello
We have done this before. The ridges or stripes as you say need to be filled either with plaster or caulking and sanded smooth. Primed. Then paint with desired paint
Important that the preparation is done properly in order to achieve a good finish.
Of course it would be noticeable. You probably have to fill the lines with wood filler or durabond 90 before the painting. Your best option is strip the wall and hang drywall. It would be a perfect, easier and cheaper method.
The seams between the sheets are usually covered by a strip of wood so to paint the room you would have to tape and mud those seams instead and skimcoat entire walls to fill grooves, sand it all flat and then prime. Ive done this before and sean it done but also always wonder if a person would be better off to redrywal. It would cost a fair bit more obviously but would definately be a better end result. Ive also seen wallpaper over it work well but personally would prefer a painted wall.
