What can I use to patch the underbelly plastic in a mobile home in -20 weather?

The mobile homes I have worked under always used the red tuct tape which obviously is useless in the cold. Can you horde in the heat to apply the tape as per the directions? Could a partner carefully follow you with a heat gun? Other than that we would wrap thin wood strapping with a piece of extra vapour barrier and staple it to some other wood framing or to another wrapped piece of strapping beside the damaged section.

Thank you Trevor for taking the time to answer my question. I will try to overlap the vapor barrier with more vapor barrier, and seal it the best I can. The heat gun would help the tape stick indeed.
