Plumbing Error and Not Paying Bill

The contractor's plumber did not turn off the shower valve, which caused the units in the same riser to not receive hot water. Property management had to call emergency plumbing service and now there is an over $600 bill. I gave the contractor this bill, and he said he gave it to the plumber. I followed up several times about this, and still have not received payment. Who is liable for this invoice? If I do not hear back from the contractor or receive payment from the plumber, what are my options here? Thank you for your help!

This would be between you and your contractor

That's why he's called contract. You had deal and dealt with the Contractor with the project not the plumber.

From a plumbers point of view, some times this does happen, the contractor or plumbing company should have been contacted first to rectify the problem before outsourcing to another company allowing this large service call to happen.

From a contractors point of view, this should be taken care of between you and the contractor, he should stand behind his trades and than bargin with them to get his money back if he chooses to pay out for this. Its more of a question of ethics than whos at fault, because fingers could be pointed at multiple parties. i.e super for not giving the plumber a chance to come back and rectify, you for not arguing this point with the super, the plumber for not turning them on, the contractor for not double checking, etc etc etc.

Sounds like your agreement is with the "contractor", so he is ultimately responsible for any damages. He in turn may have his own agreement with the plumber in which he than can subrogate against him for the damages. The terms of the agreement should outline the responsibilities owed to each party. Your situation sounds a little complicated. I wish you luck!!
