Hello,
May be a dumb question, but when a contractor tells you that your fence costs $34 a lineal foot lets say, is that $34 a lineal foot for you and $34 a lineal foot for your neighbour that you share the fence with? Meaning the total for the fence actually costs $68 per lineal foot? Thanks!
No it is just $34 that you and your neighbour split that is assuming it is just one fence going up between the two properties, if both neighbours want their own fence for some reason than they would be charge serperatly
What Jason said is accurate Charli.
Typically whoever requests the quote will get a quote for the whole fence and it's up to you to figure out who is paying what between the neighbours you have.
Good luck on the project!

Thanks guys! How is this possible when materials are about $30 a lineal foot??
$34 per linear foot indicate the total cost of labour and materials. Therefore, you and your neighbour will split the total cost into two ($17 per linear foot will be a cost to you).
I don't get how...materials are at minimum $30 a lineal foot...
That's correct, I charge a base price of $50/ ln ft for material and labour, more detailed design the higher the price. I'd be weary of a contractor with a price like this, I would doubt your postholes will be dug to 48 below grade, you know what they say, you get what you pay for. Best of luck with your project
It means it would cost $34 a linear foot for the both of you. You can split the total fence installation cost with your neighbour. Hope this answers your question.
