How tall can I leagally build a privacy fence between me and my neighbor?
Hi Shawn,
The answer to your question depends on the municipal by-law within your municipality. The height requirements do change from municipality to municipality. It is usually 6' but you should validate that with your municipal office.
If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Thanks
Dave
Hello Shawn,
In most municipalities it is somewhere between six feet and three meters ( x 2.204) = 6.6 feet. Make a quick call to your local municipality to confirm. They might also ask you for the property survey to make sure the fence is EXACTLY on the property line.
In many places...if applicable...your neighbour should pay for 50% of the cost of the fence providing you both can decide on an acceptable material and price.
Have a great summer !!
Robert
It is usually 6 ft in the back of the property and 4 ft in the front of the property but this should be double checked with your cities bylaws just to be sure.

You can only go 6 feet in hight, that is the code.
To my understanding 6 ft is height of the fence that does not require acquiring permit.
With permit i beleive you can build anything, but it might have to be engineer stamped etc.
