Residential home with low ceiling. What are the pros and cons of ceiling tiles?
Ceiling tiles lower the cieling even more. As you need to add the track system to install the tiles.
Install drywall and you will pick up 3 or more inches of cieling hieght.
Hi Jennifer. There aren't much cons to installing a drop ceiling in a low basement. Drop ceilings always look like they belong in an office or commercial setting. If you think it will be less expensive than drywall, it won't be! The cheapest ceiling panel is about $1.00/ft2. Hopefully you like that style of ceiling panel, because the price almost doubles for any other panel. Drywall is half that, at .50 /ft2. Dropped ceiling allso, require time to design the layout and other materials to setup the ceiling suspension system. Which has to factored into the cost. People are afraid of drywall, because there maybe some framing required around pipes and other obstacles and also the mudding and taping to finish it. To me the finished look of a drywalled ceiling with potlights will always be much nicer and cleaner than a dropped ceiling. And could be less expensive.
Hope this helps.
Steve Edan.
