I need to install an island mount range hood for a ceiling that is only 6'10". I'm wondering how much it is possible to shorten a chimney so that there is 25-28 inches of clearance between the stove top and the bottom of the range. This would leave about 20" for the chimney and the hood itself.
Do I have any other options or will it have to be installed very low? Most range hoods I've looked at only specify that they're suited for 8-9' ceilings and mention about extenders but not shortening the chimney.
Also, if it needs to be installed lower, will it be necessary to get a 36" or would 30" be enough?
Thanks!
Lisa
