Should I, with no experience, try to install a garburator? If I want to hire somebody, do I hire a handyman, a plumber, or what? If I hired somebody what would it cost?
Also, Can I hire somebody for a day to do lots of odd jobs. Fixing holes in the wall, a leaky sink, install/change light fixtures. etc. I need help with a lot of small jobs for my elderly parents.

Never trust a so called handyman to do plumbing....I've seen so much damage caused by wrongly installs....better safe than sorry.
Ja you need to call a plumber for that job defenatly
Hello Karin, a garburator install may be a challenging first experience for a do it yourself project. I would suggest you contact a plumber for this project. For the other small tasks you mentioned a handyman or Carpenter could take care of these tasks. A handyman could replace light fixtures depending on experience. The worst case of improperly installed electrical fixtures is fire, so you would want to make sure the person installing these fixtures is familiar with the existing wiring used in the home and the new connections. If you are in doubt of their abilities contact an electrician. I would not be able to comment on costs for your area. I hope this helps.
A garburator will also (in most cases) need a dedicated circuit from the panel anyway, so you will need to call an electrician and get an permit. Get the electrician to install the fixtures while they are there.
