Seal the transparent plastic sheet on the walls of the basement. The plastic sheets are used to affix the pink coloured insulation onthe 4 walls in the basement. I do not have the traditional red tape.
I have the Nashur all weather (white) duct tape (for HVAC duct sealing) - multi-surface, durable bond 1.89" Would this white duct tape (suitabel for HVAC duct sealing) be suitable for affixing the transparent plastic sheets onto the walls of the basement? Will this duct tape be as good as the red tape which the builders had used?
Thanks
If you don't have the red technical tape use acoustical caulking. If neither then the tape you have should be fine. Just make sure it wouldn't react with the vapour barrier over time.
The clear plastic is your vapour barrier and should be sealed completely or it loses it effectiveness. The type of tape suggested is the red Tuck Tape but what you have may work. My concern would be the longevity of the sticking power with that tape, knowing that there will also be moisture around the seams. It's your call. Be sure that all seams are covered and any tears or holes.
What's the purpose of the pink insulation foam on the walls of the basement is? To prevent the cold from seeping into the basement (and up into the ground and first level house)?
Thanks
