Spacing for closet doors

I'm replacing doors on a closet. It had two bi-fold doors that were an oddball size. Assuming they were trimmed down. I'm redoing the door jam and it has room to go over 48 inches.

The plan is to have two 24 inch slab doors open french style.

What is the suggested spacing?

The size of the doors plus 1/8 on each outside and 3/16 in the middle between both doors.

You may want 1/4" in the centre and make sure you get beveled doors so the don't hit each other when they close. (the small side of the bevel goes in the closet)

1/2 inch extra on each side

If the two doors are going to be 48 inches x80 inch's

You want your opening to be 50 inches x82 inches

I would allow 1/8 on each side and a quarter inch in the middle with beveled doors with the bevel going inward. If you're a beginner put your two 24-inch doors together complete with Jam then measure that outside outside and make your rough opening a minimum half inch larger and use wood shims to install it
