I'm trying to repair my stairs at home but I have plywood risers. I wanted to know if I could use wood filler and/or wood putty, sand it down and paint it?

if it's just the risers yes you can use paintable wood filler. If it's on the treads I would recommend using epoxy if you're looking to repair instead of replacing. Hope that helps, best of luck.

Interior or exterior? If exterior - no. If interior, you can do what you want. I'd suggest using bondo instead of wood fill...

I'm assuming you're not referring to anything structural, in which case, yes you can. However, for the treads as mentioned already, using an epoxy would be better. Just make sure you are attentive to detail when using the epoxy, it's very difficult to sand afterwards.

Yes you can use wood filler sand and paint your plywood risers however I recommend buying some sort of laminate even MDF and glue on top of the plywood so you have a perfect finish. It may sound like a lot more work but it's actually less work and will pay off in the Finish
