Start Reno vs a carpenter ant problem possibly

We have a 8 foot by 24 foot verandah addition that was added in 1968. In 1994 approx. we replaced the screens with glass windows to better utilize the space. Now the wood is rotting around the windows, and renovators say with the cost of labour, you might as well replace the windows and repair the areas around the windows. We now have spotted what we think are carpenter ants and seen some sawdust. Should we hire a bug specialist to eradicate the ants or is it too late?

I would call a specialist in your area to determine the damage and the extent of the infestation. Carpenter ants can destroy the whole house if not treated early. A specialist can determine the damage if any before investing in costly renovations.
