Hi,

Does thicker filter make AC and Furnace work hard that can cause long run time and ice on the coils in summer? Do we really need those thick expensive filters? Would you suggest the fibreglass "see-through" filters, $3.99 pack of 2?

what kind of pan do I need to put in the furnace room to prevent water of condensation leaking on the floor, and where should I place it and where the water will go from the pan?

I got the problem fixed (filling the gas in the AC unit, but still want to take extra measures.

Thanks

Syed

Pleated filters are great at removing smaller particles, but they're also more restrictive, which means they need to be replaced more often. They trap small particles better than cheaper filters, so they get clogged up much quicker. This can lead to your AC freezing up due to lack of sufficient airflow. Using pleated filters is fine, just make sure you replace them monthly, especially if you're running your furnace fan ON continuously.
