Has anyone ever got a Trade equivalence assessment, I have been looking into it as I would like to become a equal to a licensed/qualified general carpenter, even though I don't need it to work in Ontario it would be nice to have, just wondering if this is the only way to obtain it and how hard is it to obtain.
Hi Jason
I believe this is just another name for the
test required in Ontario to receive your
Certificate of Qualification as a Provincial
General Carpenter or Inter-Provincial General
Carpenter depending on which test you choose
to write. I would contact The Ontario Ministry
of Skills and Development or what ever it is called now and find out where their facility is to actually take the test to receive your
Certificate. Usually you must go through a proper Apprenticeship program and have all your work hours signed off by your employers.
You used to require a minimum amount of hours
to just qualify to take the test.
Good luck
Yea an apprenticeship would have been ideal but my former employer screwed me after working for a year and has since gone out of business I have also worked in Calgary doing renovations for a year and have grew up doing renovations having jobs all my life in the trade I have been self employed for almost 3years now so that's why I'm thinking this trade equivalency assessment would be the way to go to avoid doing everything again and becoming an apprentice in such losing my business which has been amazing, tough spot that in sure lots of people are the same
Find a license carpenter & have him work out a deal with u ? I.e for your hours u offer 1/2wage ? I had to work weekends and day's after my regular job for free tp get my ceramic certification! You need apprentice hours or pay out of pocket & get certification! Good luck & proud of u to take the initiative!!!
