We are planning a reno in the basement to turn it into a rentable suite. I am wondering if we will have a problem with the electrical system given that the whole house is on the 100 amp circuit and the upstairs has a fridge, stove, microwave, washer and drier. I am wondering if the circuit can take the additional load of installing the fridge, stove, microwave, washer, drier in the basement suite??? What are the possible solutions to this?
Thanks
Zoe,
You should always consult your electrical codes officer to find out how many amps you are allowed to tie into the panel. A 100 amp service is a standard residential panel. You can put more then 100amps worth of breakers in the panel because not everything will be on at once drawing their max power. Adding extra appliences shouldn't be a problem unless you have something else that runs full time that draws a lot of power. Make sure you cosult with a residential master electrician or your codes officer. Electrical overload is a very dangerous situation.
Good lick,
Jay
