Would you buy an old house with UFFI insulation? How expensive is it to have the insulation removed and a certificate provided for its removal?
Good morning
UFFI there's no easy way to say it to remove the old UFFI there's 2 options, option 1 tear the drywall off down to bare studs and remove the UFFI from the inside you then have to factor in the cost of reinsulating re drywalling and painting all the outside walls.
Option 2 is to do the same thing but from the outside if it's sidded or a removable finish (not brick) you can remove all the siding plywood into the bear studs and remove eufy from the outside in then you would have to consider cost of reinsulating plywood and refinishing the outside to whichever it was. But in saying all this you can generally work it in when buying a house as a discount or I've seen in the past the previous homeowner is responsible for it unless you sign off on it if you can get the house at a good deal you get to remodel the inside of the house the way you want it. As for the certification yes the company would require to give you a certification all removal you will also find some insurance companies will not touch the house for insurance due to the UFFI insulation.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I would avoid purchasing a home with UFFI insulation. The time and expense for removal is not worth it.
I have performed many reno's over the years. And have run into it.

Hi,
Thank you so much for the information. We truly appreciate it.
For Option 1 of gutting the inside, removal and obtain certificate for abatement, re-insulating, re-drywalling and re-painting. What is the rough cost for this type of project? The house is old with plasters (roughly 2500 sq ft). Thanks.
