I am interested in an all in one boiler and hot water system gas fired. We currently have an electric hot water tank for hot water and a gas boiler (superhot over 40 years old) for central heating via hot water radiators. The house is 2 storey about 2,600.00 sq ft.

What models do you advise and who should I use to get a good price or what price should I expect?

is it better to have two systems one for the hot water like a Navien and one for the boiler like a super hot again or something more efficient and greener?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Joanna,

I suggest looking at the Viessmann combi system or the Lochinvar knight condensing boiler with DHW. Both are Hi Efficiency 95%+AFUE and will offer what you require. Both units qualify for LivesmartBC grants.

I would start by getting quotes from three contractors. Fortis BC has a list of qualified contractors in your area. Make sure the contractor you choose does a heat loss calculation and gives you a copy, this verifies proper boiler sizing. I am biases towards TECA qualified contractors as I am a member but HRAI members offer similar quality. Beware of side job plumbers and ALWAYS make sure your gas contractor is Licensed, insured, bonded and registered with WCB. A permit is required from BC safety Authority and depending on your municipality a plumbing permit may be required as well.

I Hope this helps.
