Hello,
I have a circuit in my house with 2 light fixtures and 3 outlets. I have confirmed I have 110 vac everywhere and inside fixtures. Nothing works. I've tried all different types of bulbs and appliances, lights just flicker a bit. Changed fuse and switch, still not working.
Any ideas?
Broken wire somewhere for sure. Will certainly react like that. It will test for correct V but won't hold a load.
Check to see if you have power between the hot wire in the box and the white wire.
If you don't. Check voltage between the hot wire to the box ground.
If you have power this way but don't have power between the neutral and the hot (coloured wire).
Your neutral wire is disconnected most likely at a) the switch or at another device.
Broken wire or loose connection. If you test the voltage without a load and it tests 120, you will also need to test the voltage with a load. Then you can decide if it is a broken neutral or ground. Whatever you do, do not remove the white and connect directly to the ground, testing only situation; but lethal to anyone that my need to work on the circuit later as the ground will carry the load and could be fatal if a fault occurs. Call a licensed electrical contractor and get it repaired properly and safely.
It's for sure a neutral problem. You are not getting 120v between the black and white wire.
Chances are there is a loose neutral some where or if someone was doing some work on your electrical panel the neutral may have came loose or off the neutral bar.
Hello,
Thank you all for the advise. My outdoor socket was corroded. Replaced and everything works again. Thanks again and hope to cross paths with any of you in the future.
Many Thanks,
Dan
