Do handymen working exclusively on private residences in Quebec need a general contactors license? I have spoken to a few RBQ employees who give me conflicting answers. Two have stated that as long as I work on a private residence, I can do any work except electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and gas. One other RBQ employee told me I cant do any work without a general contractors license.
I believe Act R-20 is the authority on this but it is not clear, since it doesn't relate specifically to handymen.
Thanks.
Handymen dont need a license for small repairs, but if you are doing plumbing, electrical, hvac, gas and structural changes you will need a license and permits.
You can hire the handymen to do all work except the ones that need a license

Unfortunately, handyman DO need a licence to do any work for payment...even door knobs and light bulbs.
