My old hearth seems to be small for my fireplace and I would like to know what the size requirements are.

Does depend on a few things but generally wood burning is 16" and gas can be 12", or less in some cases.

Hope that helps.

You need to have non combustible material in front of a fireplace for the first 18 ." there are no specific requirements for the size of a hearth.

Not aware of any regulations re. distance from firebox but I would go for approx. 12'' based on personal experience.
