What does it normally cost for painting per square foot?

Unfortunately you cannot put a regular, normal

price per Sq.Ft. on painting. No one lives in a perfect house. A good Carpenter/Painter will

see each ceiling and wall differently. All the cracks , screw pops, nail holes etc. Get at least three Detailed Estimates on paper than make your choice. Cost per Sq.Ft. is usually based on large new sub-divisions where most of the homes are very similar. This type of pricing has many extras attached to it and no two houses will cost the same.

The cost of painting per square foot depends on the surface condition and the amount of coats that need to be applied. Therefore, the price will be more expensive when the surface needs more preparation work. Changing colours will also affect the price. In average, the price for interior residential painting will be in between $1.50-$3.50 per square foot.

Doors and trim/casing are usually charged separately, but your painter could give you a general price for everything, and charge you somewhere in between $3-$4 per square foot (this new price will include ceilings, walls, doors, baseboards, casing, windows -although casing and baseboards are measured in lineal foot).

If you decide to get the doors painted individually, the price will range from $80 to $ 200 per door.

As for baseboard and casing, the price could be anywhere in between $ 1.20 to $ 2 per lineal foot.

Like the previous pros mentioned, the only time we quote per square foot and unit prices is for new construction. This is because we know exactly what to expect.

our prices run between $3.00 and $ 4.00 per sq ft plus material. This includes caulking ,nail hole filling and all minor repairs. We also sand between evey coat.
