My husband and I built a log home 25yrs ago. Now we are looking into covering the outside with some sort of siding. We are looking at Novik Shakes (gives the look of cedar shingles) and fusion stone. I wanted to use the fiber cement siding but my husband doesn't think it would work on our home due to weather condition living in the Maritimes.
What I am looking for is something that is maintenace free (almost - I know there isn't such a thing out there).
I would really appreciate anyones input on this. I know its going to cost a great amount no matter what we do that is why I want to do it the right way first without having any regrets later on.
Thanking you in advance.
Hi Katherine!
Just wondering why you want to cover up the log outside? Is it in that bad of shape?

Thanks for responding.
The logs are at the point of needing to be sandblasted and rather than do this my husband and I are getting up there in age so we want to cover the logs with something giving us maintenance free so we don't have to re stain the logs every 3 yrs. Its alot of work to have a log home they are lovely to look at etc but we are constantly working on our home.
If you have any other ideas on what to do would love to hear from you again.
Thanks again.
Hi,
Keeping and maintain the logs is probably your best bet.
Post you project and get quotes to sand and refinish. Compare the costs to redoing all you siding, adding window trims ect, and painting.
Personally I donnot really like fiber cement siding, for the costs difference you may as well use cedar.
It would probably be cheaper to just refinish your log home, and keep the character you have loved for so many years.
Good Luck
