We just moved into a 20 yr. old home that's roughly 2900 sq. ft. and these winter months have become extremely dry. The home does not currently have a whole home humidification system so we've been using the plugin types to humidify our bedrooms to prevent us from all from completely drying out.
I've been looking at adding a whole home humidifier unit that's installed on our furnace but see a few different options such as the Flow Through, Drum and Steam units. After reading so many different opinions online I'm more confused now that when I began.
I'm looking for the best option that will a) not cost a lot and b) prevent excessive moisture from collecting the duct work or the rest of the house. We want the best option to keep our house at a comfortable and healthy level.
Can some of you share your thoughts on what the best options are and what I should expect to pay for, both the units and installation?
Thanks again!
Hello,
We use the Aprilaire line of humidifiers. They are a hybrid flow though that has a reservoir. This means the water will not keep flowing down the drain. Once the reservoir is full the water it will stop running until the water is used. The Aprilaire 600 is good up to 4000 sq. This unit has a humidistat that will control the level of humidity in your house to your comfort. Drum style humidifiers you have to clean all the time or will become clogged and flow though humidifiers waste water ($). The Aprilaire is the best of both worlds.
Hope this helps.

Hi Justin,
Thanks for your suggestion. How much would the Aprilaire cost - unit + installation?
