My backyard is 12 years old and 3/4 of it is covered by weeds.
I have been cutting weeds instead of grass.
The backyard measures 30 ft by 30 ft.
What is the easiest and cheapest cost to replace the backyard with HIGH QUALITY GRASS? It will be a SOLE MAN DIY job so I will need to do it smart.
In which months of 2019 should I do it?
Will a weather forecast affect the daily work schedule? No rain for the next 7 days?
What are the tools that I need to do the job and where could I buy the REAL grass? I live in Vaughan Ontario.
Thanks
Hi,
First step: I would remove old grass and 2 to 3 inches of soil. You will probably need to order a bin for this step.
Second step: Order fresh top soil and properly grade the top soil away from your house.
Third step: Lay Grass
The best time to lay grass would be in the spring or fall, however we install grass in the summer too. You just have to water it more often.
And if you don't want weeds you need to water the grass cut it when it needs to be cut and don't cut it to short.
Hi Martin,
Elder offers some good advice...
However, it is important to understand how grass remains healthy & survived.
For example, if your yard was infested with weeds, it is very probable that you affected the health of the grass in the yard on either side of you via contaminated cross pollenation. Or your yard may have been affected by weeds in their yard. Point is, all neighboring grass needs to be healthy or it's a matter of time before the weeds set in.
Another tip...the blades of grass for healthiest results = the depth of the root...typically 2 1/2 inches. Set your lawnmower blade accordingly.
Do some further research & you may decide grass is a futile option...or not.
Hope this helps & best of luck.
