Hello everyone!

I am planning on installing a seperate enterance to my basement from my backyard. I am fairly new to this and want to educate myself on the process of the installation.

I will be getting permits and inspection. My engineer told me that no underpinning is required and instead styrophone will be used. My was built in 2002 and the basement ceiling height is around 9ft

Any tips suggestions and inputs on the process will be greatly appreciated

This is not a good project to learn on .

If it's a concrete wall and you cut to far , you could be looking at some bad problems .

Also weeping tile issues ,

You need a drain if the door is to close to ground level .

If it's a wood wall that you are curing into .

It won't be as problematic

As soon as your done with the engineer you can start calling contractors that they did similar projects in your area and talk to them and get quotes. Based on the qualifications and experience you would be able to choose the best match for you. However this type of projects is not cheap as you might think. Will be in the range of $20K

Hello

If there is no need for underpinning, that means that your basement is maybe like 18 to 24 inches below the back yard grade. In this case you will need a couple steps up and drainage connected to wiping tile. If it is lower than that, you will need underpinning and concrete foundation. Costs range from $8000 to $25000 plus permit costs.

Hiring structure Engineer is best part.

Based on given drawings as one of the guy informed to call experienced contractors and give them drawings, show them the site conditions, and they will educate you as need to see the site to give you any suggestion. It would be shooting in dark.

Select a good company from local neighbourhood. Easily approachable, would be more cost effective.

Thanks
