I do not know the best material to use for my pathway, and then at end a small space of approx. 10x10' spot to park and turn around my power wheel chair around. As it is I cannot access my backyard at any time of the year due to the uneven lawn and lack of stability of soil. Every time since I became disabled and stuck in chair I just get stuck, and three different times I tipped over and got trapped underneath because the ground was too soft and the wheels Sink. Expense is a big concern.
Most cost effective material would be a plain concrete path. Typically should cost approximately $10-12 per square foot. Stronger than wood, easy to maintain, cheaper than interlock.
Good morning Linda!
Thanks for reaching out with this query. We can appreciate the restraints of a budget, but you deserve to be able to enjoy your outdoor space even within the limitations of your wheelchair.
Concrete slabs or paving stones would be the most cost effective solution for you in our opinion, however, interlocking brick would be the most durable. That being said interlocking brick can be quite expensive
Have a wonderful day and thank you again for your question.

Hi Linda,
Sorry to here about your circumstances and especially your accidents...terrible.
Asphalt work be the best, cost effective method.
If costs are beyond your budget (or not), I'm confident you could get subsidies to help cover costs. I know here in Winnipeg, there are programs for financial support to help handicapped people bring there properties up to full wheelchair accessibility. Inside and outside their home.
Keep in mind, Asphalt does get very hot on a sunny day.. if an accident should occur. Other than than, concrete is the way to go. Pavers could shift and cause you more trouble than what its work.
Best of luck and take care!!!!
Derek
