I'm going to be building a shed and wondering what the best type of wood to use for board and batten is. Would pine be the wood of choice or should I use brown pressure?
I would use cedar, it's your best bet if exposed to the elements as its natuarly rot resistant and paint and stain penetrates very well.
Theres a reason its used in everuthing from planter boxes to fence panels to roof shingles....you can't go wrong with cedar!
Is there a more cost efficient way than cedar?
Jay,
Cedar is great but you should know that it loses its natural colour and turns grey. You can stain it and that helps but think long term and what your end result will be. I prefer pressure treated wood, as it costs less (not by much) but lasts 20 years or better and is relatively maintenance free. Either one will do the job. If you are going to paint the exterior, then it really doesn't matter what you use. You can always add vinyl siding for a finished look.
