How should one transition the trim color from one room to another? Our livingroom trim is MDF painted same green as walls. Now I want to move to entry hall just outside living room that now has natural mahogony. I'm not sure if I should leave the rest of the house w/ this mahogony or start painting it. Thx
Trim throught your home should be consistent in color and texture. Painting the mahogany will give you the color consistency but not the texture. Continue with the painted MDF.
hi, Carol,
If there are doors between rooms then you can have different trim colour, other wise it should be the same colour.
If it will be painted, the mahagony trim needs to be sanded and primed with an oil primer.

The age of your home can help determine what decision to make. Many turn of the century homes in Ontario had multiple trim colours throughout the homes and it looks quite charming. Newer open concept homes do look best when the trim colour is the same throughout the public spaces but there are always exceptions.
