How much would it costs for a plumber to convert my single bathroom sink to a double?
Normally changing sink sizes requires either the counter top being replaced or cut open. It depends on the age (of the counter top, not the plumber), size currently installed, material it is made of, etc.
You could count on 3-6 hours at $75-$110 per hour labour, plus materials of $200 to $1200 depending on what you require and your budget. You'll need both bowls plus new tap sets.

First thing you have to consider is if your bathroom has adequate space to accommodate a double vanity.
If space permits, the following would need to be done:
- Need to determine whether or not the existing cabinets can accommodate a double sink. If not it would need to be removed and replaced with one that can.
- Sometimes double vanity cabinets accommodate for a gang trap (both sinks using one p-trap). If this is not the case, then new plumbing would have to be roughed behind the walls.
Overall this job would take anywhere between 1-2 days and would cost approximately between $500-1500 (does not include new double vanity), depending on if new rough work needs to be done.

Your sink cabinet in your vanity is different from the rest of your cabinets. The top 6" is reserved for the sink. Usually the sink is hidden from view with a false drawer front (no handles and doesn't open) or full height cabinet doors that had a 6" high board across the top.
Typically, going from one sink to two will involve a new vanity made for 2 sinks. buying an off the shelf vanity from a store like Home Depot will probably run you $500 of so. Then you've got to pull out the old vanity, get the plumber in to adjust for the 2 sinks and install the new vanity. Most vanity don't include the sink and taps, and some don't even include the counter. So, if you did need to do everything
Vanity $500
Counter (Laminate, not stone) $150
Sinks $100 x2
Taps $50 x2
Rip out and dispose of your old vanity $200
Plumber $500
Installation of vanity and counters $200
More then likely the need to repaint $200 - $300
Total so far approximately $2100. This is all just off the top of my head, so I might be a little off here and there, but it gives you an idea of what is involved and what you need to look at.
Good luck.
