Heated floors in basement washroom

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has ever installed heated floors in a washroom? Do you need additional electrical work to get this done? How does it work if the drywall is already put up? How much would it cost to put it in a 50 square foot area? What material do you need?

Sorry for the long list of questions. I'm a newbie when it comes to renovations.

Samoya,

Best to post this as a request for quotes. You will get all the information you require quickly and a variety of trades to choose from. Electrical work is best done by qualified people with sloid companies to back up their warranty.

best,

Andrew

Hello Samoya,

Heated flooring, especially in basement bathrooms and kitchens is normal here in Calgary.

The heated mats themselves are very easy to install and will cost in the region of $75.00. However, whenever you are adding anything electrical you should always use a qualified electrician and always get a permit. The mat itself can be added to an existing circuit as long as the circuit is not overloaded, otherwise you will need to run a new circuit and that may be expensive depending on where the panel is in relation to the bathroom etc.

The cost will depend upon whether you are going to buy a standard size mat or will it need to be a custom fit. If your walls are angled then a custom mat will probably be the best option. Check out NuHeat online for prices of mats and thermostats and also for qualified installers within your area.

Hopefully this helps you out? Ian.
