Does the surrounding shower walls have to have a kerdi sheet on the walls or even a special type of drywall like the blue sheet of drywall. And the bathroom floor outside of the shower have to have a kerdi sheet under the tile. When a toilet is being moved or any type of electrical work done require any type of permit.

Hi Bernice.

Shower stall walls should have Denshield or cement board as a base and the Kerdi system can be applied on this. You should not use WR drywall in a shower stall. WR (green or blue) should be used on the remaining walls and ceiling. Once we remove the existing flooring in a bathroom, we like to install 1/4" hardie backer board and then apply the Kerdi system.
