Kitchen Cabinets

Our kitchen cabinets are approx 15 years old and need to be restained. Is this a cheaper option than replacing the cabinets. I want to refresh only. I don't want to replace them at this time.

If this is an option - what is the estimated time and cost to resurface 15 doors and 4 drawers?

Hi Karen: I would suggest that you go to a kitchen shop and get a quote on new doors and drawer fronts. In combination with new handles, this will give your kitchen the new appearance and could be price competative with getting the old ones redone. If the basic structure of the cabinets is in good shape, why replace them.

If the cabinet doors and drawers are old, they will have grease impregnation and could be scared as well. This, depending on what type of finish is desired will greatly increase your refinishing cost. If you wish to do it yourself, go to a reputable paint or refinishing store, and they can help you out with the products and advice on how to do it.

Good luck.
