Good Morning Richard:

Tile setters are like any other trade. There are good ones, and then the unmetionables. We have used a Master tile setter who was trained in Europe. You can see the difference and he is slightly more expensive. For the majority of simpler work, we do it ourselves, but have bought better equipment to do the job.

Normally, tile setting can vary from $3 per sq to over $5 per square. It may seem like lots but they supply the cement and grout in that price.

Check out your setters and see the work if you are not sure. For intricate mosaic styles and walk in showers, you will pay. For straight floors get one who centres and lines up properly. A crooked line in the tile makes buyers wonder how much care was taken in the rest of the home.

If you count their time and investment, they don't make any more than any other "Professional", Qualified tradesperson.
