Hi,
I'd like to remove my whirlpool tub and replace with a soaker. How much should I be charged for this?
I assume there's electrical to be removed - can a plumber do this or is it a separate job for electrician?
When everything is said and done would it be cheaper just to get a new whirlpool tub? This is a budget reno.
Also, is it possible to remove tub and save the tile surround? They are in good shape.
Thanks!
Hi Jane,
It is very unlikely that the tiles in the tub surround can be saved when trying to change the bathtub, nor would you likely want to keep them.
As for the electrical aspect, If you are not going to replace the current tub with another whirlpool i would highly recommend having an electrician use the 15 Amp dedicated GFCI circuit that should be there (depending on age of the house and if a licensed contractor installed it) and installing it into a wall outside of the bedroom as an outlet.
Someone one day may want to install another whirlpool tub or a heated floor in the bathroom and having a dedicated circuit already run to the bathroom could saved a large amount of money and headache in the future.
As for price, having a new tub and surround changed can range from 4k - 15k depending on the tub, shower valve and trim, tiles, backer material and so on.
Good luck with your project.
