My hardwood floor is a year old. I have 2 new puppies and it's always dirty. It seems to be more dull than before but I may not be getting all the dirt up with my wet swiffer duster. What is the best way to clean my floors and keep them looking new ( I think the swiffer is to wet).

You are correct in that there are special products made to clean hardwood floors. The manufacture of your floor will have specific cleaning instructions as well. You should never leave water on the floor without wiping it off immediately.

What I suggest to my customers is to use "Vileda mop". It is like a swifer but with a removable cloth base. I tell them to rinse it with water and wring it as much as possible to make it nearly dry. This helps pick up any dust off the floor without getting it too wet. You can also find hardwood cleaners at any hardware store.

Hi,Stewart here of Sct floorcoverings.I always recomend, damp mop (Not to much water) with cold ,clean water( do not use cleaners as they contain acids and alkaloids that will Rot the Hardwood over time) Also sweep any grit that walks in from outside. No shoes policy will keep the grit to a minimum. Regards-Stewart-Sct floorcoverings Mississauga 416-295-0906
