Hi: I have a question for the pros. I'm In montreal. My neighbor was taking out the principals walls ( murs porteurs) of his triplex ( that is the mirror of mine and have no mitoyen wall) of the 1st and 2 floor and is replace it by a big column. both building have 3 floors)
at the beggining of march I have seen some cracks on the 3rd floor of my building.
I call the neighbor to ask if that is not due to his renovation and him told me that is due to a snow on the roof.
Could someone tell me the difference of cracks when it's due to a structure mess of beside building or when the weigth of snow?
Thank you very much, here the pics.

Bonjour,
Hi Gus.
Your question is best addressed by a structural engineer. However, houses are built with consideration given to withstanding snow loads that are typical for their region.
