We have a 25 year old fireplace in a home we just moved into and found that the liner is breaking apart. Can it be replaced or do we have to get a new insert altogether?
Yes you can change the stone liner. However being 25 years old, they might not be available. Look over the fireplace for any model numbers and contact a napolean dealer to see if the parts are available. Another possible option would to have normal fire bricks cut to the right size to fit your fireplace. A fireplace repair company could help with that option.
Considering the age of the fireplace, I would recommend that you contact a professional to check. They will be able to identify if there is any structural weakness in the fireplace apart from the stone liner & help you make the necessary repairs needed to get the fireplace back lit again.
