Just wondering how one can tell if an inside wall is a load bearing wall.
The numerous ways you can have a home structure built is pretty daunting -
is there a multi ply post in the wall carrying a point load down to foundation?
Is the wall carrying a header?
Are the ceiling joists running over the wall? If the wall is removed this could cause the joists to be over spanned.
Is there a wall on top and under the wall you want to remove?
Are there joists overlapped on top of the wall?
So numerous ways to check.
I would have an architect or engineer come in to review.
An option is a new header to carry the load and then they can properly spec for you a header and posts to carry the load.
