If you are the person who cleaned our ducts back in Sept/Oct 07 and offered us a quote of $1800 (3 installments of $600) to paint our 2500 sq ft home in Oakville...please contact me ASAP.
Thanks

Hi Manish,
Please, please, please hire a professional painter. Someone who cleans ducts and then quotes paint cannot be reliable. $1800 for 2500sqft is cheap and the quality will match the price I am sure. If you want quality and a real quote, let me know...I am not the cheapest but I will gaurantee a good job. I have been a painter for years myself and now manage my own contracting company,

I appreciate your feedback and I'll entertain any available quotes that are close to that one. This particular gentleman was a painter for Mattamy homes for 4 years....therefore he seemed trustworthy. I'm looking for a professional painter to paint our house for $2000 including paint. Let me know if you are still interested.
Mannish,
If cost is your first concern than be prepared to not have a professional quality job done for $1800.00. assuming that you are having the whole house painted. If quality (paint as well as labour) is your first concern than ask for other detailed quotes and compare them.
It's not that the Mattamy home painter wouldn't be trustworthy but he does new construction paint jobs and not re-paints as you are asking for. They are as different as night and day.
Good luck
Mary
Hi Manish,
Some things that come into consideration when estimating a painting job are: patching, wall prep, colour changes ergo primer, the actual paint (hopefully nobody uses oil anymore, but what are they covering, how many coats and the quality of the paint), trim and/or the ceilings, and not least: how intricate is the painting, i.e., do you have chair rails, crown molding, lots of windows/doors and/or skylights (if the ceiling is to be painted).
Break down the $1800 - Paint $200 - $300; patching and repairs: $40 - $100. You're now left with $1400. That pays for about 3 days' work, 2 man crew. 2 guys might be able to get the wall repairs done and dried in a day. If there aren't many repairs, they may be able get all the walls prepped too, which only leaves 2 days to paint 2500 sq ft twice. I don't see how this time line will allow for a quality paint job.
Hope that helps you to understand why $1800 is cheap.
Oh, Cosimo, not everybody knows how to paint but there are a few guys out there (1 or 2) who can do many things extremely well. This guy obviously has an issue with reliability but I wouldn't be too quick to put that down to duct cleaning. Good all around handymen are really hard to find. As a matter of fact, there is an ad for an apprentice on this site and the advertiser hasn't even had a bite. We've been looking for one for years.
