Hi,
I was wondering how much would it cost to Repair a Load-Bearing Post? Also, can someone please suggest me a good reliable structural engineer/contractor who can fix this issue?
The beam is supported by 3 2x4s, one is in the ground and the other two are above the ground.
One of the 2x4 is sung in the ground about an inch or so. The other two are bend with cracks. I also see small cracks around the area.
Thanks
Hello,
First if you have a 2x4 that has punched a hole through your concrete and you have (2) 2x4's that are bending with stress cracks I would recommend you do one of two things immediately.
1 - ( if you are capable) Go to Home Depot and purchase 2 adjustable screw shoring jacks and (2) 2x10x8' Cut the (2) 2x10 in half ( 4 ft pc) stack 2 on top of each other on the floor on either side of the existing post, directly under the existing beam. Now install the temporary shoring jacks on the 2x10 and snug the jack post under the beam.
2 - Have a qualified contractot respond as soon as possible.
Now that you have done either step you should have an engineer review the post and recommend a footing size and a post size depending on the load above.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Regards,
Mike
