We have a low slope roof. It was originally tar & gravel. Approx. 10 years ago we had it shingled with a membrane underlay. This roof is finished on the west side. We are being told the roofer used the wrong shingles.

Can you tell me what tiles should be used before we hire another contractor?

I don't know of any shingles that are designed for low slope roofs. All the ones I've used can only be used on 4/12 or greater pitched roofs. So yes you have the wrong shingles. You need a flat or low slope system. Which is usually tar and gravel, torched down or a seamless membrane system. They are all much more expensive than shingles, but that is what you have to use.
