I hired a guy and he said he will do my roofing in a week. We sign a small contract. I already gave him more than 60% of the price. We agree. Now he has been postponing the job, never even started, and it was more than 3 weeks ago.
Please, can anyone give my any suggestions of what to do?
Hi Alma,
I feel for you. If you hired a legitimate roofing contractor with a good reputation, then you shouldn't worry. His reputation is very valuable to him and he wouldn't do anything to stain it.
That is why good contractors get recommended, they put a lot of work energy into maintaining a good reputation.
If you hired somebody with out a business licence, no reputation etc then you are in trouble.
If this "guy" you hired is just that some random "guy" then you can try to take him to court or suggest you will if he doesn't start your job.
I'm not sure, but maybe check with police to see if fraud charges would stick.
Good Luck,

Alma,
Sorry to hear about your situation. I would suggest that you keep after him and ask for the money back if he can't do the job as stipulated. It's unfortunate but this type of situation happens far too often. Sometimes it is a legitimate issue such as rain, mechanical issues or other, but regardless, he should be up front with you. Call again and be firm!
Regards,
Mark
