Have recently replaced b'room faucet. Had noticed some water damage to ceiling in room underneath prior to but it seemed to dry up. More than 6 weeks later the drywall in the celing is cracked and peeling. What did we do wrong? Do I have a leak? and how big a job to fix and repair ceiling?
Check to see if you have water dripping or running down the feed lines whit the taps both on or off. Use a swath of toilet paper as it will help you fnd out quite quickly.
If that is not the source, check the drain pipe as far down as you can using the same method. The drain will not leak water unless the taps are running. If the leak is not found this way, you may have to open the ceiling to find the leak.
If the ceiling is a textured finish, it is a big job to repair. If it is painted, should be able to repair it in a day.
This advice is based on the presumption that the water source is a plumbing issue. It may also be a roof leak.
if the job isn't done yet, you seriously have to call someone to come and fix it soon as its not only a waste of water, but also putting you in risk.
