Hi,

What do brick layers charge per brick to rebuild an exterior only chimney? (no interior work)

Most bricklayers would not charge per brick to rebuild an exterior brick chimney. It would be an amount based on the site specific chimney.
The considerations for the costing would be a) the height of the chimney b) is scaffolding required and, if so, then the setting up of the scaffolding c) how many bricklayers or worker/labourers are required.
As a minimum you would need at least a bricklayer on the roof or scaffolding with a worker/labourer bringing the bricks and mixing/preparing the mortar mix d) whether the chimney needs to be completely replaced or just a few bricks needed to be removed/repaired.
I think the range would be anywhere from a minimum of $500 to $2,000 or more depending on site conditions.
That sounds about right, maybe a little bit more for a complete and thorough rebuild. 2500+ for a proper job.
